Cozying up to a New Season: How I'm Prepping my Wardrobe for Fall

Los Angeles isn't exactly known for cool, crisp fall weather but....it actually gets a little chilly over here sometimes.  Even though I'm not buying coats and scarves, I'll always love a good chunky knitwear piece and typically invest in one or two each season. I've been very focused on brighter colors this season. Maybe it's a reflection of my mood, but I just can't seem to bring myself to buy anything in a neutral color. I think this is because I've realized the statement pieces I wear over and over again are in bolder hues. I still think it's important to buy black basics (like these bike shorts and this bodysuit) every season, as we all typically reach for these pieces again and again. I linked some more budget friendly options below, which are especially useful if live/plan on visiting somewhere that has actual fall/winter weather!

Running Late with Net-A-Porter

My instagram bio doesn't lie, I really am always running late. I have been actively working on trying to be better for the last few months, but I think it might just be hardwired into my DNA. If you're like me, this jacket is the perfect statement piece. The colorful fringe and unique embroidered details make it the perfect colorful yet fall-appropriate wardrobe addition.

THINK PINK: My Surprising Favorite Color for Fall

It's not exactly an original statement to say your favorite color is pink, but mine definitely is. I never expected so many of my fall purchases to be pink but still feel seasonally- appropriate. I realize this could be partly due to the fact that I live in Los Angeles, but I received so many compliments  on this dress (from New Yorkers) when I was at Fashion Week.

NYFW OUTFIT DIARY: DREAM DRESS

This dress is, without doubt, one of the best things in my closet right now. I will definitely be rewearing it to a non-NYFW event in the near future.  I know the head to toe red look was most popular last fall, but I still think it works if you keep your accessories neutral.  For those of you with formal events coming up I would highly recommend anything created by the STAUD brand. Their pieces are beautiful, elegant, and (most importantly) not crazy expensive.

Band Tee Babe: My Collection of Band Tees & How to Start Your Own

I know I've posted about this before, but my band tee collection is the #1 thing I get DM's about! As I've mentioned before, I don't get them from one specific place. I'm on the hunt constantly- at home in L.A., traveling and pretty much whenever I'm online shopping.

On The Road: Recap of My Recent Travels

I recently took a road trip from Los Angeles (my home) to Portland, Oregon with my sister and had an amazing time. I can't say I ever got super dressed up (except for tea at the Rotunda, pictured above). My wardrobe mostly consisted of leggings, t-shirts, sweatshirts and the occasional pair of jeans but comfort is KEY when you're driving through the middle of nowhere for hours on end.

Summer Splurge: Striped Pants

Last year I found myself buying striped pants over and over again. I got these and another pair from Topshop. I had no idea how useful they would be but I found myself wearing them more often than not, so I figured that this year when it came to "investment pieces", I'd definitely be buying a new pair, preferably made out of a quality fabric.

No Denim Weekend Look

Anyone else feel like they're always throwing on the same jean jacket over their outfit? Or wearing the same pair of jeans to everything?? Every time I wear something "safe" aka incredibly basic, I always regret it later and wish I'd taken more risks. This is especially true on weekends, when I'm tempted to wear the same jean jacket, pair of jeans, or denim shorts over and over again. Weekend plans are supposed to be FUN, which means your outfit needs to be, too.

Summer Looks with Nobody's Child

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3156609"]I don't discuss this too much, but I learned so much in fashion school about how clothing is sourced. This really means that I've seen way too many documentaries about unfair labor practices in overseas factories. I always take note of whether a brand cares about their factory workers before I agree to work with them. This means I have passed on collaborations with lots of brands with accessible price points- not because I don't think their clothes are cute but because I wouldn't want to promote a company with a shady past in terms of labor practices/quality control (it's kind of like setting your friend up with an attractive guy you know has a sketchy reputation).

The 411 on Pink Hair

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3133714"]While I have loved having pink hair for the past month, there are definitely some things I wish I'd known beforehand, which is why I'm writing this post. So many of you DM'd me on Instagram and asked about upkeep, products, and whether I did this myself (spoiler alert: don't trust myself enough for that).

Pink Hair & Plaid Dress

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3117079"]As many of you already know (presumably from instagram), I dyed my hair pink about two weeks ago for my 25th birthday. It was temporary and washed out quickly, but I liked it so much that I decided to try a longer-lasting version the following week. This was something I had wanted to do for a while but had never been bold enough to try.

Dress Up Season

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3088143"]I feel like spring is such a busy season for so many of us! Whenever I find out about an event, I immediately do a mental scan of my closet and ponder what to wear. I don't think I'm ever super excited to attend something until I have my outfit nailed down because one of the worst feelings in the world is realizing you're unprepared for something at the last minute.

My Favorite Thrifted Finds (as of late)

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3059767"]If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love vintage clothing. I've mentioned it before, but just to give you some background- I worked at a charity thrift shop in high school for volunteer hours. At the time I thought it was incredibly boring, but in hindsight it's really what led to my love of thrifting and vintage clothes.

Why You Can Still Wear Your Off the Shoulder Tops

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3048641"]So I'm pretty sure we all went a little crazy for the OTS trend last summer. When I looked at my closet recently I was a little concerned about my lack of tops for weather under 65 degrees.

Luckily, it's basically springtime (depending on where you live), and even though these purchases may seem long forgotten by now I think it's important to get the most wear out of them as possible.

I'm making mine feel fresh again by wearing them with high-waisted, light wash jeans and kitten heels or the currently popular "dad sneakers". It may seem odd to mix such a girly piece with chunky, orthopedic looking sneakers- but I promise you can pull it off.

Blue Crush: My Favorite Unexpected Color Combination

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3018266"]I think the color pink got a bad rep for a while- movies in the early 2000s made it seem like a color reserved for mean cheerleaders and juicy tracksuits. In the past two years, there has been a major turnaround for the color with lighter shades of the color majorly coming in to play- just look at the packaging for one of my favorite beauty brands, Glossier. Now that 'millennial pink' has become the term for every shade of the color that isn't blinding, it can even seem a little too trendy at times.
